Each storage device have their own performance matrix w.r.t IOPS. in this article, we shall discuss on storage disk types and their IOPS metrics. There are end number of devices available in the market these days and their performance depends on its IOPS. if you are planning for your new infra or expanding your infra then make sure correct storage & their disk else you may face performance issues in infra.
Here is minimum three metrics that always considered IOPS, response time and (application) workload. There are some other factor also which also effect IOPS results including the system setup, storage drivers, OS background operations etc.
Mechanical hard drives Types
See below for some typical performance figures

Above figures may vary and depends on disk type and their throughput based on RAID configuration also. You may get the IOPS number details from storage OEM also or they publish on their portal against device model.
IOPS is often measured with an open source network testing tool called an Iometer.
